Some Travel Information which may be of use to you as you plan your trip: ** Please note we think it is accurate but things change so please check for yourselves ** Click here for an area map A road map to help you to find your way into our valley Click here for a local detail map A road map to help you to find your way right to the chalet Self-Drive Flights Car Hire Airport coach or taxi Rail Travel/ski Insurance We are about 10 hours drive from Calais and it is motorway virtually the whole way. It is an easy and pleasant drive. Remember you should bring snow chains. Although the roads are cleared very efficiently in the Alps there are occasions when chains are needed, so be safe! There are several internet sites that sell chains - you just need to know your tyre size. Please note: the only way into the valley in winter is via Albertville and Moutiers. We have had guests whose satnav or Michelin routefinder did not tell them that the Petit St Bernard pass is closed in winter!! Bad mistake! There are a number of options. Geneva is 2½ hours away by car and Lyon, although further away in miles, is around 2¼ hours away. Lyon is a much more user-friendly airport than Geneva but both are good. Chambery is about 1½ hours away. Grenoble is also an option Geneva airport: www.gva.ch/en Lyon airport: www.lyon.aeroport.fr Chambery airport: www.chambery.aeroport.fr Grenoble airport: www.grenoble.aeroport.fr
Try: www.bauer-car-rental-france.com (If you hire from Geneva airport it is much easier to pick up and drop off the car in the Swiss part of the airport as opposed to the French part) If you don't hire a car, there are coaches from Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble airports to Bourg St Maurice (20 minutes from the chalet and we can usually arrange to meet you there). This transport is efficient but costs around £50 to £60 return, so for a group it is normally more economical and effective to hire a car. An alternative to consider is a taxi which for a larger group could be cost effective. Taxis (A cost effective alternative for a group. Most of these taxi companies have large vehicles for groups):
